Maruti Suzuki to unveil three new SUVs at Auto Expo 2023 including an EV concept

After a hiatus of a year, the Auto Expo is set to return this month at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. While some big car manufacturers like Mahindra, Skoda, Volkswagen, Honda, BMW etc not performing in this year’s Auto Expo, carmaking giants like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Toyota are readying their products for the country’s largest automotive show.
Just like the previous iterations of the auto show, the Maruti Suzuki stall at the Auto Expo 2023 is expected to dazzle with new products and concept vehicles. The company will likely showcase three new SUVs at the event, which also include an electric SUV concept. Here are the three highly-anticipated Maruti Suzuki SUVs at this year’s Auto Expo –
Jimny 5-door
Maruti Suzuki is in the works of developing a 5-door version of the Jimny off-roading SUV, and the production version of the new SUV will make its debut at the Auto Expo 2023. The Jimny 5-door will likely have a longer wheelbase as compared to the 3-door version, apart from the additional rear doors. However, no other major design changes are expected to be made to the SUV. The boxy and rugged design will be carried over as it is, including the large fender flares, round headlamps, vertical slat grille and so on.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will likely be offered with the company’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 105 PS and 138 Nm, with a 5-speed MT and optional 4-speed AT. Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case could be standard. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will go up against the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door in the Indian market.

YTB crossover SUV
Thanks to the countless spy shots, we already know that Maruti Suzuki is working on a brand new coupe crossover SUV which has been internally codenamed YTB. The new crossover will sit below the Brezza in Maruti Suzuki’s line-up, and will be retailed through the brand’s premium Nexa dealerships.
The new car is essentially the production version of the Futuro-e concept showcased at the previous edition of the Auto Expo. Talking about the design, the Maruti prototype featured squared-off wheel arches with plastic body cladding and a sloping rear windscreen, connected to a rather flat tailgate. The crossover will likely sit on 16-inch alloy wheels.
While the carmaker is yet to confirm what powertrain the crossover SUV will be offered with, rumours suggest that it could get the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor that was first seen on the Baleno RS. This engine put out around 100 PS of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque on the performance- oriented premium hatchback.

Apart from the Jimny 5-door and YTB crossover, Maruti Suzuki is also expected to showcase a brand new electric SUV concept at this year’s Auto Expo. Codenamed YY8, the car will be Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV concept – the production-ready version of which will be launched in the coming years.
No details about the Maruti Suzuki EV concept are available as of yet, but it could serve as a competitor to the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, as well as the upcoming Mahindra XUV400. The electric SUV is expected to be developed in partnership with Toyota, and will also be introduced in foreign markets. A range of around 500 km can be expected from the upcoming Maruti Suzuki electric SUV on a single full charge.
