NCRB: MP tops states in serial killings, violent crimes up 12% | India News


BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of psychopaths and serial killing cases in the country in 2021, according to the recently released report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). As per the NCRB report, violent crimes in the state have increased by 11.8% as compared to 2020. The state recorded 26,038 violent crimes in 2021 as against 23,287 cases in 2020.
Of the total 13 psychopaths and serial killing cases reported in the country in 2021, four cases were reported in MP, followed by Chhattisgarh (3) and Tamil Nadu (2). The data suggests that during the first wave of Covid-19 in 2019, the graph was down as the state had reported only two serial killings. MP had remained in the second position in country in 2018, reporting a total of four serial killings.
An analysis of the NCRB report suggests that in the last three year the total number of serial killings reported in the country are 65. The psychopaths and serial killing cases were reported in seven states in 2021, including a UT.
An increase of 3.18% in murder cases was reported in MP as compared to previous year – 2,034 murders were reported in 2021, while 2,101 in 2020, and 1,795 in 2019. An increase of 7.11% was seen in the IPC crime data in a year in MP.
