Nepal party seeks to change govt form, says presidential govt needed for political stability

PITHORAGARH: The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) has called for a direct-elected president and state executive. In its manifesto, the party said it’s “need of the current times” to change the form of the government “to bring political stability”.
The party waged a decades-long armed struggle against Nepali monarch till the country adopted parliamentary democracy and a federal and republican form of government in 2015.
Back in 2015, the party had sought an elected president system of government and registered their dissent, while endorsing the constitution.
