Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to take centre-stage in Bharat Jodo follow-up | India News

NEW DELHI: With the 3,500 km Bharat Jodo Yatra expected to run its course from Kanyakumari to Kashmir by January 26 next year, the Congress on Sunday announced that it will begin a two month-long ‘Haath se Haath Jodo’ campaign from Republic Day to March 26, doubling down on the message of unity from the Bharat Jodo Yatra and taking it to every village panchayat, district and state across the country through targeted programmes.
The nationwide follow-up campaign will put the spotlight on AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is expected to lead “women’s marches” in every state. Organisation general secretary K C Venugopal said Congress will also unveil women manifestos in every state, tailored to the local needs and concerns of the womenfolk.
The Congress steering committee, where 41 leaders and former party chief Sonia Gandhi was present, reviewed the performance of the Bharat Jodo Yatra so far, and what the party must do to build on the 150-day cross-country march.
Emphasising the overwhelming response that the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra has received in its 89-day run so far, Venugopal said the ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan’ from January 26 onwards will involve block-level padyatras covering all gram panchayats and booths, district-level conventions and state level rallies. He also said workers will deliver door-to-door, Rahul Gandhi’s letter to the people explaining the purpose and achievements of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“We will also distribute a charge sheet against the Modi Government along with that letter,” Venugopal said.
“The Indian National Congress has a critical role to play in finding solutions to these challenges. The Steering Committee calls upon every Congressman and Congresswoman to work with unity, faith, determination, and a sense of collective purpose. The victory of the party will be the victory of every leader and karyakarta and a victory for the idea of India that guided our freedom movement and is enshrined in our Constitution,” Venugopal said, quoted the steering committee.
