Sangma: Meghalaya: Two more parties back Conrad Sangma, MLA count 45 | India News

GUWAHATI: Meghalaya’s regional parties UDP and PDF came out in support of Conrad Sangma’s NPP-led coalition. Now Sangma has the support of 45 MLAs.

Till Saturday, the coalition had 32 lawmakers, with two each of BJP and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), and as many independents, supporting it. This leaves only the new Voice of People Party (VPP) with four MLAs, and Congress and TMC with five each, in the opposition.
UDP and PDF are allies of NPP in the outgoing Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government. But UDP took its time to declare its support.

UDP’s support gave heft to Sangma’s coalition before his swearing in for a second consecutive term on Tuesday. PM Narendra Modi is likely to attend the ceremony. PDF president Gavin M Mylliem and working president Banteidor Lyngdoh gave their letter of support too.
